Veteran reggae icon Colbert Mukwevho was recently honoured with a doctorate for his contribution to the development of the Tshivenda language by the University of Venda.
Since his graduation, however, nothing has been done by his fellow musicians to celebrate this milestone achievement. A group of artists and a local businessman have come up with the bright idea and have teamed up for a show that will remind people who Mukwevho is and to celebrate his achievements.
Businessman Mpho Netshifhefhe of Tshifhefhe Bar Lounge at Tshisahulu and Gardens Bar Lounge in Thohoyandou and his friend and musician Mushavhi Nedididi have roped in other famous musicians for the great event.
Dubbed Colbert Mukwevho live on Stage, it takes place tomorrow (Saturday). "Dr Mukwevho has done a lot for this country and his recognition by the University of Venda is testimony of his great deeds. Through his music so many were touched. We feel not enough has been done to celebrate his achievements and we have come together for this mammoth celebration,” said Nedididi. He added that those who did not know Mukwevho personally would receive a chance to interact with him and listen to the music that made him famous and a legend.
Businessman Mpho Netshifhefhe said they were well prepared for the great function. "We will start here in Thohoyandou Gardens Bar Lounge, where Dr Mukwevho will perform from 10:00 to 16:00, and then proceed to Tshifhefhe Bar Lounge at Tshisahulu next to Leandani Secondary School, where he will perform from 18: 00 till late," said Netshifhefhe.
Others to perform include The Receptors (Live), Boss Killer (VenRap) and DJ Junior De Rocka.
