The seventh Phalaphala FM Royal Heritage Festival and second gospel festival that took place last weekend attracted many music lovers. The gospel festival was held at the Christ Missionary Church and the Royal Heritage Festival at the Nandoni Dam.
According to one of the organisers, Mr Shandu Nesengani, the purpose of the heritage festival was to showcase the cultural diversity of Vhembe and Limpopo. “The festival provides the province with an opportunity to unify its citizens and the neighbouring countries to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and promote tourism in the province,” he said.
He said that he appreciated the support they received from music lovers who came to the festival in large numbers.
The MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Ms Thandi Moraka, commended the Phalaphala FM and Royal Garden festival organisers for making a joint effort to preserve culture and to promote African traditional norms. She said culture was one of the main human tools that should not be left behind during the process of transformation. "Our indigenous languages should also be preserved for the benefit of the young generation and the community at large,” said Moraka.
She said that it was important for artists to treat their careers like a business and, according to her, the government is determined to help artists overcome financial difficulties.
Gospel festival artists who performed on Friday night included Tumi, Worship House, Benjamin Dube, Zaza, Rofhiwa Manyanga, Taki Ndou, Justice Nema, Palesa Ravele, Bishop Roxley Masevhe, Secret of Worship, Takie Sikwivhulu, Rapson Rambuwani, Jay Mbiza, Thili Maumela, Puluso Thenga, Zamo Dlamini, Thabelo Thavhanyedza, Tiyani Maluleke, Naphy M and many more.
The artists who perfomed at the Royal Heritage Festival on Saturday included AKA, Colbert Mukwevho, Shekinah, Jonas Gwangwa, Zonke, Thomas Chauke, Afrotainment (DJ Tira), TipCee, Dladla Mshunqisi, SunEl, Busiswa, Mlindo The Vocalist, King Monada, Leornard Zhakatha, Team Mosha, Benny Mayengani, Zozo, Makhadzi, Sir Mckleker, Dupa, Kanakana Cook, Mazwale, Sungel, DJ Shimza, Lerato Kganyago, Speedsta, Ganyani, Zinhle, VJ Nutty, Jones, Lagguga, Zamo Dlamini, Russian Army, Una Rams and many more.

With a successful roots-reggae album titled “Shandukani” to his name, Fhatuwani Richard Mashele is quickly becoming a household name in South African music. Better known as Jah Saint in music circles, Mashele believes that success does not come overnight and that one must work hard to earn it.
Khathutshelo Dzaga from Thohoyandou Block G, known as Khathu within music circles, has captivated her fans with her latest song, “Muvhonetsheli”. The song is a collaboration with Uber Black and features Racha Kill. The song is in Khathu’s familiar style, often described as a mixture of amapiano and Afro-beat.
“Music should help address societal issues that are affecting the community,” says house musician Meshack Nemakhavhani, better known as Mesh De Vocalist. The musician from Tshaulu Buluni has released a new album, titled “Mbilu I Khombo”.
Musician and actor Mpho Majiga is quickly emerging as the next king of disco on the South African music scene. The position became available after the passing of the late, self-styled king of disco, the legendary Dan Tshanda.
