Hardly two years after obtaining a third position at the Rofhiwa Gospel Star Search, Tshivenḓa gospel artist Lufuno Phalandwa (25) has recorded his debut live CD and DVD at a fully packed community hall at Ha-Mutsha, near Levubu, a fortnight ago.

The album is aptly titled Midnight Hour Worship and it comprises 20 songs, 18 of which are new compositions. The album was recorded under the local music stable Mukurob Media and was produced by music guru Thendo Ramulondi.

"I am out of words, this was just the work of the Almighty God,” Lufuno said. “I knew that the recording was going to be big, but I didn't expect it to be that great. Many thanks to my supporters for the love and support they showed me.”

Lufuno’s musical style is fresh and lucid, backed up by his amazing, but strong voice of an accomplished singer. He has a unique voice and his style of writing songs is different.

“I believe in setting the trend and remain original at all times,” he said. “I may appear new in the music industry, but what keeps me strong and confident is that people appreciate my work, because of my style which makes my music shine with the quality of its own. My supporters and the gospel industry at large deserve a fresh taste of gospel music – and I have just brought that taste with the recording of Midnight Hour Worship.”

During the show, Phalandwa represented Mukurob Media in handing over a cheque of R3 250 to Divhanivhuyo Learner Support and Youth Development, which is a non-profit organisation based in Tsia-Mutsha. The organisation cares for to the orphaned and destitute children.

In his project he featured other young singers such as Ngudo Praise, Kgaugelo Kekana and Grace Nakana. He extended his gratitude to Mukurob Media for believing in him and helping him find his ground in the music industry. “I didn’t expect gospel lovers to flock into the hall to support an unknown youngster like me,” he said. “Oh – I love all those people!”
