Make education a priority - Meskay

Read: 8748

Singer Khuthadzo Tshisudi, better known as Meskay, is advising young musicians to focus on education.

The 25-year-old, who obtained a diploma in linguistics from the Tshwane University of Technology, said upcoming artists should focus on their studies first and make music a hobby. "Education is important to artists; it gives them knowledge to write mature music with a strong message."

He added that being educated also helped artists to get proper jobs as one cannot rely on music only for a better life. "People hardly buy music these days because of technology and piracy. It is worse in Venda, and that is why am encouraging other artists to make education a priority," he added.

Meskay hails from Vleifontein but is currently residing in Pretoria. He said he was working on his first studio album, entitled Darkest before dawn, and the album would be released later this year.

Meskay has one mixtape and one extended play on offer and has worked with a lot of local artists. He said he was inspired by the likes of the late Lucky Dube, Colbert Mukwevho, Chris Brown and the Group Jozi.

People who are interested in his music can find him on Facebook at Meskay Mr-Hooks. For bookings, call Tshilidzi Mavhungu on 071 606 2208 or email [email protected].
