Lovers of gospel music in the Vhembe district will be treated to the original sounds and beautiful voices of talented singers during the live recording event that is to be held at the Father's House Ministries International in Mutale.

The event will take place on Saturday, 1 April, starting at 17:00.

The two singers, Putuma Tiso and Sabata Masoka, both have a long history of excellence in the genre. They established themselves as singers to be reckoned with, taking inspiration from the Bible and other singers who came before them.

Sabata Masoka's musical journey started in the church that he attended as a seven-year-old boy. He joined Joyous Celebration 4 in 1999 and proved his worth while further honing his singing skills in the group. “People waited for too long up here in Venda to witness my live performance,” he said. “It was inevitable that my first live DVD be recorded here where most people also love my music.”

Sabata has recorded three albums, Umnqamlezo (2004), Ngizoqhubeka (2007) and Izethembiso (2010). He hails from Bizana in the Eastern Cape.

A resident of Ebesuthwini in Port Elizabeth, Putuma Tiso, fell in love with music at a very young age too. In Johannesburg, her beautiful voice wowed the internationally acclaimed jazz icon Hugh Masekela. Soon she earned herself much respect from music lovers across the country. She then travelled to European countries and China because of the high demand for her music and performances.

“I feel glad that I am finally in Vhembe district to record my DVD,” she said. “Some people always travel from this side of the country to attend my shows in other provinces, but now I think it's so good for me to have come to their place.”

Putuma feels that music knows no boundaries. Her albums are Putuma (2010, jazz genre) and Jesu Dwala (2016).

The two singers will feature major artists on their DVDs, among them are Rebecca Malope, Benjamin Dube, Thapelo Molomo and Hlengiwe Mhlaba. Another featured singer, who hails from Thengwe Lukau in the Mutale area, Ndivhaleni Musetha, said that she could not wait for the day of live-recording performances.

“I see it as a blessing for me to have been featured in a project of this magnitude,” she said. “Putuma and Sabata have already established themselves in the industry and being featured in their projects is the opportunity of a lifetime.”

Tickets for the event are already available at R200 and R300 at Computicket.
