Mob murder?

The Levubu police are investigating a case of murder, after a 24-year-old man, Dziedzi Netshiongolwe of Lwamondo-Vhunama, was allegedly beaten to death by members of the community of Ha- Mutsha, Kwekwe, last Saturday night.

According to the police spokesperson of the Levubu SAPS, W/O Solly Mukhola, it is alleged that Netshiongolwe and two other men had robbed a soldier and the victim shouted for help, prompting villagers to rescue him. Angry residents then allegedly chased the deceased around the village.

When the mob was about to apprehend him, Netshiongolwe climbed into a tree. He was, however, captured by the mob and, according to eyewitnesses, the mob assaulted him with various objects. The police arrived at the scene during the incident and the emergency services immediately rushed the severely beaten man to the Tshilidzini Hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

No arrest had been made in connection with the incident at the time of going to press, but the police mentioned that many people would soon be behind bars. In a statement released by the police, they condemn the actions of the residents, saying they will never tolerate situations where people take the law into their own hands.

The family spokesperson, Mr Rudzani Mathomu, was overwhelmed with grief when Limpopo Mirror visited them. "I am saddened and I am in a state of shock. I do not have any answers as to what could have happened,” he said. According to him, members of their family are still shocked and very disturbed about the incident. Mr Mathomu said that Netshiongolwe was still young and the family was still expecting a lot from him. He added that the family would love to see the law take its course.

Dziedzi will be buried tomorrow (Saturday) at Lwamondo, Ha- Tshivhuya. The service will start at 06:00.
