Narrow victory for Masters

Dimani Young Masters narrowly beat the Tshaulu Soccer Academy 1-0 to secure a place in the final of the Boy Nemakonde Soccer Challenge at the Tshifudi Stadium last Saturday.

It was the second game for Soccer Academy in a space of four hours. Soccer Academy beat Begwa United Brothers 6-4 in their quarterfinal match at the same venue earlier that day.

The first 15 minutes saw Soccer Academy enjoying more ball possession in the middle of the park, with Young Masters showing no cohesion. They squandered two clear chances, however, within the space of six minutes.  Owen Munzhelele caused an upset when he volleyed from the edge of the box, instead of taking his time and picking his spot.  Mpho Mudau committed almost a similar blunder a little later when his close-range volley went far wide.

No goals were scored in the first half.

Tshilidzi Mudau of Young Masters was reprimanded with a card, following an illegal tackle on Avhatendi Ndou in the 56th minute. The game turned lukewarm after both sides effected some changes to their starting line-ups.

The goal that separated the boys from the men came in the 64th minute. Masters’ slender striker, Robert Mudau, caught the Academy keeper, Muvhuso Simba, napping and blasted in a rocket after a scramble within the box. Young Masters started to use their delaying tactics after the goal. Their midfielder, Maipfi Siala, was warned with a card for wasting time.
