The new, modern multi-purpose sports courts in the Kutama area will help to nurture the future sports stars of South Africa, said the Minster of Sports and Recreation, Mr Fikile Mbalula, during the recent handover of two multi-purpose sports courts.

Addressing the community of Kutama-Tshikwarani at Muengedzi Senior Primary School two weeks ago, Mbalula said multi-purpose courts would assist young people to recognize their talents and reach their dreams. He urged young people to use the resources fully for their benefit. “Sport is important for your health; play while it lasts. It will help you succeed in your education,” he added.

Sports such as tennis, basketball, volleyball, soccer and netball can be played on the multi-purpose courts.

The sports facilities were built after the Rainbow All Sports Academy (RASA) from Kutama applied to the Sports Trust, which then applied for funds from the National Lottery Distribution Funds. The chairperson of RASA, Mr Thomas Mayisa, said they had already hired coaches to teach the young people and they would ensure that the facilities were maintained up to standard. “We will build a wall around these facilities to ensure that they are in a safe and secure area that is free from vandalism,” he said.
