Baroka keep their title hopes alive

One of the two Limpopo-based NFD league sides, Baroka FC, kept their title hopes alive by collecting maximum points away from home. They thumped African Warriors 2-1 at the Charles Mopedi Stadium in Phuthaditshaba on Sunday.

Baroka did not stop fighting, despite the fact that the home side scored in the 14th minute. They were awarded a penalty after Elias Serakalala was brought down on the brink of beating the keeper. Joel Sebanda gave Warriors a 1-0 lead from the penalty spot.

Baroka found the equaliser nine minutes into the last half. They were also awarded a penalty after a defender of African Warriors handled the ball within the penalty area. David Selopyane made no mistake from the white spot.

A mistake by the Warriors defender, Ben Sdumo, gave birth to the second goal of Baroka. Lucas Sithole blasted in a rocket from the edge of the box to seal the game.

Black Leopards gave Sivutsa Stars a free soccer lesson by walloping them 6-1 at the Giyani Stadium. (See a match report elsewhere in the paper.)

Thanda Royal Zulu continued to pave their way up by beating United FC 1-0 at the Olympia Stadium in Rustenburg. Roses United shared the spoils with Witbank Spurs, when they played to a goalless draw at the Kaizer Sebotlelo Stadium in Bloemfontein.

FC Cape Town were too good for Blackburn Rovers, whom they beat 3-1 at the NNK Rugby Stadium in Cape Town. Santos gave away points to Jomo Cosmos, who scored the only goal in the match two minutes before the referee blew the final whistle.

Chippa United beat the Maluti FET College 3-2 at the Phillipi Stadium in Cape Town and Milano United lost 0-1 to Vasco da Gama at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.
