Floating trophy for Young Destroyers

 

Khumbula Young Destroyers were crowned the champions of the annual Zama Zama Soccer Challenge last Saturday.

They beat Giyani All Stars 5-4 in the final of the competition at the Giyani Homu 14 ground. The winner was determined through penalty shoot-out, after the teams played to a 1-1 full-time score.

Khumbula All Stars were presented with R10 000, a floating trophy and gold medals during a ceremony that was held at the ground immediately after the final. Giyani All Stars received R5 000 and silver medals. The third- and fourth-placed teams, Khumbula Masters and Fighters, received R2 500 each.

The four teams that were booted out in the quarterfinal stage, Juluka Benfica, Blue Birds, Golden City and Liverpool, received a consolation prize of R1 000 each.

Several players were presented with individual awards for their outstanding performances during the tournament. The top goal scorer (Akani Banda of Giyani All Stars), best goalkeeper (Matimba Shimange of Giyani All Stars) and player of the tournament (Vutivi Mabunda of Giyani All Stars) were each presented with trophies. The best coach of the tournament, Mr Goodman Mathebula, of Khumbula Young Destroyers, was also presented with a trophy.

Khakhala Netball Club were the champions of the tournament in the netball category. They were presented with a floating trophy and gold medals.

Some of the businesses and individual who sponsored the tournament include Dr Yuza Moses Chabalala, Dr Godfrey Maringa, Mr Slings Thulani Mabunda, Mr Casper Mbombi and Giyani Spar.
