Muraleni United and Mpheni Home Defenders in a 2-2 draw

Muraleni United held the current log leaders of the MMK Insurance Brokers league, Mpheni Home Defenders, to a 2-all draw in a match played on Sunday at the Muraleni grounds.

The match was characterised by numerous futile attempts at scoring. United squandered three opportunities within the first seven minutes. Rendani “Balo” Mathavha of United scored his team’s first goal with a marvellous shot.

Defenders did not lose their fighting spirit, despite conceding this early goal. Their midfielders continued to distribute some telling passes from the middle of the park in their search for the equaliser. The half-time score was still 1-0 in favour of United.

United then took the game to the visitors. They found the equaliser through their captain, Moses Lisoga. He blasted in a rocket from the edge of the box. United continued to dominate the proceedings as the game progressed. They were denied several sure goals by the Defenders’ acrobatic keeper.

Ndaedzo Mphalandwa of Defenders forced his way through the defence of the opponents and released a rocket from outside the box to make the score 2-1. As if he was a spectator, Kevin Salani watched the ball hit the net without making any attempt at stopping it.

The visiting team enjoyed more ball possession, but their promising moves were thwarted by the solid defence of Stars.

Tshilidzi Muthabi of United scored from a free kick late in the match to even the scores out.
