Women’s Day honours for Dzungani

 

Dzungani FC were crowned the champions of the Women’s Day Soccer tournament at the Makuya Solly Luvhengo grounds on Sunday. They beat Tshambuka FC 1-0 in the highly contested final.

Dzungani were presented with R1 700 and a soccer ball during the prize-giving ceremony held at the ground after the final, while Tshambuka received R1 200 and a soccer ball. The hosts, Makuya Try Again, finished in third place. They received R800 and a soccer ball. Sanari FC (fourth) were given R600 and a soccer ball.

Mushumo Matshete of Makuya Try Again, with three goals, was the top goal scorer. Mashudu Matshete of Dzungani was the best goalkeeper.

Eight teams from Makuya and the surrounding areas took part in the two-day event. Teams which tried their luck in the tournament are:  Gondeni Brave Lions, Makuya Try Again, Tshambuka FC, Maholoni Stone Breaker, Phaphama FC, Matovha FC, Sanari FC and the champions, Dzungani FC.

The full results of the tournament are: Makuya Try Again 5, Gondeni Brave Lions 4; Dzungani 1, Phaphama FC 0; Tshambuka FC 6, Maholoni Stone Breakers 5; Sanari FC 3, Matovha FC 1; Tshambuka 3, Sanari 2; Makuya Try Again 3, Sanari 1 and Dzungani 1, Tshambuka 0.

The tournament was sponsored by Aubs Motors, Nedbank and Camp Bottle Store.
