Vhembe cracks whip at Movhe

The Vhembe District Municipality has cracked the whip at the underperforming Movhe Secondary School.

During her visit to the school at Mulenzhe village outside Thohoyandou on Tuesday, Cllr Dorcus Mmboi commended the school principal, Mr Masenyane Mabasa, for helping to improve the matric results at the school since he came in three years back.

Since Mabasa was appointed, the school's results increased from 24% in 2011 to 41, 37% in 2012 and 42,85 last year. In 2012, the school had 29 pupils who wrote matric. Only 12 of them have passed.

In her address to the school management and SGB, Mmboi said she was disappointed that the school did not perform up to standard. She appealed to the resentative of the Department of Education in Vhembe, the SGB and traditional leaders to sit down and find out what might be the challenges facing the school.

“For this school to improve its results, we must first find out what might be the problems it is facing, so that we can attend to them in order to get good results. We can’t blame the principal for the underperformance of this school. For this school to succeed, it needs team work," she added.
