Two local beauties to participate in Commonwealth pageant

Two local young ladies, Ms Rotondwa Musitha (20) and Ms Aluwani Malange (21), have been selected as part of the 20 finalists for the Miss Commonwealth South Africa title.

The prestigious event will be taking place on 29 August at the Lyric Theatre in Gold Reef City, Johannesburg.

Rotondwa believes that South Africa is a country rich in opportunities for beauty queens, so that they, in turn, can assist the less fortunate. “I am here to make a difference in my community and country,” she said. “Already I am an ambassador for charity, change and culture.”

According to the organisers, the winner will represent South Africa at the international pageant in London in November 2014. All 53 Commonwealth member states were invited to send their representatives to compete for the prestigious titles.

“It feels amazing, exciting, and I am honoured to be a finalist, because I thought I wouldn't stand a chance, seeing that this is my first pageant,” said Aluwani. She described herself as this friendly and generous woman, who also loves to help people.

“I am not afraid to speak my mind,” she said, “and I would like to win because I have what it takes to empower women. So I have already started to help people in my community.” She also  thanked her sponsors, Decadence Nail & Body Salon in Sandton City, Johannesburg.

“As a contestant, I will contribute by spending time with the charity as well as raising funds,” said Rotondwa. “Readers can assist in keeping me a finalist by SMSing Rotondwa Musitha to 42899 (R3 per sms).” Rotondwa is currently sponsored by Maseakhole Constructability and Projects and Masana Social Development and Training.

The pageant judges include Marilyn Ramos (Miss South Africa 2012), Stephen van Niekerk (Isidingo actor), Nadia Beukes (TV presenter), Adéle Loots (dancer and seasoned pageant judge) and Solly Moeng (current president for the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa).

Rotondwa resides in Makhado town, and Aluwani is from Vleifontein.

Rotondwa Musitha says she wants to make a difference in her country.
