Petrol bomb destroys pastor’s vehicle

A well-known Limpopo clergyman, Pastor Alistair Mashamba of the Apostolic Faith Mission Church of Mulamula, suffered a huge loss when an unknown person allegedly petrol bombed his vehicle in the wee hours of the morning a fortnight ago.

The vehicle, a Toyota Verso, with its contents, was completely destroyed and the pastor does not know who had done it or why.

Towards the end of last year, his church at Mulamula was completely destroyed by a heavy storm, which left damage estimated at R250 000 in its wake.

Mashamba says he heard a loud bang outside his house and when he looked out through the window, he saw that his vehicle had caught fire, which could not be extinguished. He said that he phoned the police, who later came after the car had burn out. “We later found that the fence had been cut to give entrance to the culprit. I was using the car as my office, and in it there were expensive Bibles which I had bought overseas, cheque books and other items,” he said.

He says he had bought some of the expensive Bibles in the United States, where he received a Bachelor of Theology degree and a Bachelor of Arts from the Hebron University in 2010.

Police spokesperson W/O Alson Mapindani confirmed earlier this week that they had opened a malicious-damage-to-property docket and that no one has been arrested yet. Investigations are continuing, said Mapindani.
