Straighthardt Clinic the best in Vhembe District

The clinic at Straighthardt is the best clinic in Vhembe. This announcement was made during the annual departmental health care ceremony at the Tshikombani Stadium last Wednesday.

The Levubu clinic was declared the second best clinic.

Ms Muvhango Ramovha, the mental health care coordinator in Vhembe, said the ceremony was conceived to pay tribute to workers who displayed dedication and motivation. "They have really made us proud. The event was organised to motivate clinic workers to work harder in future," she added.

Thulamela Mayor Grace Mahosi said they wanted to create awareness about the situation of mentally challenged persons and the people who take care of them. “Mental patients need to be accepted, taken care of and loved by relative and friends as part of the healing process,” said Mahosi.

Thovhele Vho-Midiyavhathu Tshivhase urged the community not to push these people away. “We have this kind of event because we want to show mentally challenged people that we love and accept them in our houses and community. What we can do is to take them to schools, where they can get an education,” says Tshivhase.

Ms Suzan Musekwa from Straighthardt Clinic said that the clinic was excelling at service delivery after outshining other hospitals in the competitions. "We are sure that we are on the right track – from the most experienced medical specialists to the newest cleaner. Quality of care has its roots in the attitude we have towards those who seek help. Good care starts with respect, good communication and an understanding of the individuality of our mental patients," she stated.
