New SAB team for Zwigodini

The days of travelling long distances to support local football at the nearby villages is something of the past for the residents of Zwigodini village in the Niani area. This follows the decision by a local businessman, Mr Berea Madzonga, to purchase the SAB League franchise from the Folovhodwe-based side, Mighty FC.

The deal that will see the team relocate from Folovhodwe to Zwigodini was concluded on Monday this week.

Speaking shortly after the deal was concluded, the former managing director of the team, Mr Derick Livhanda, said that now that the club’s status had been bought, he would sleep peacefully. He indicated it was difficult for him to cope with the challenges that went with managing the team by himself.

He mentioned that the team had gained promotion from the Mutale Local Football Association to the SAB League at the end of last season. He said that the day-to-day administration of the team had become unaffordable to him after the team had gained promotion, since he was unemployed. He added that another thing that forced him to sell the franchise of the club was that the majority of the players had left the club to further their education elsewhere after passing Grade 12 last year.

Livhanda said that the team had played five matches last season and lost all of them. When asked about the amount at which the franchise had been sold, Livhanda said that that was a matter between the buyer and the seller.

The team’s new general manager, Mr Dakalo Ratshitanga, said that the team would start to collect league points this weekend. He revealed that they had assembled a formidable squad. According to him, some of the players who will be in the team’s colours when they host Muswodi Happy Fighters at the Zwigodini grounds tomorrow include Aubrey Ndou, Dzivhuluwani Simba, Juliet Ngubane, Thabelo Mutshauba, Pfariso Mukoma and their acrobatic keeper, Joseph Ndwammbi. Ratshitanga stated that they had appointed Mr Rofhiwa Muligwe as the team’s head coach.
