Baroka FC to play first game at home

Teams affiliated to the Absa Premiership will commence with their activities for the new season next week. Four matches will be played on Tuesday evening and three the following day (Wednesday 24).

The rookies, Baroka FC, will play their opening match in front of their home crowd. They will host Ajax Cape Town at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Tuesday evening. For Baroka it will be a continuation from where they left off two weeks ago. The Polokwane side proved their critics wrong when they beat Kaizer Chiefs 3-0 to lift the FAME games trophy.

Baroka beat Black Leopards 1-0 in their semifinal match to secure a place in the final against Kaizer Chiefs.

Although Baroka recently released a number of players, including their top goal scorer, Thabiso Kutumela, to other clubs, they still have a lot to display in their showroom. Theriso Maphetho, Ndivhuwo ‘Segere” Ravhuhali and their number one goalkeeper, Oscarine Masuluke, are some of the players on whom they will pin their hopes.

The match of the day will be between Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium. Kaizer Chiefs and Wits were close contenders for the league title last season. Polokwane City will fly to Cape Town where they will lock horns with Cape Town City at the Cape Town Stadium. Chippa United will host Free State Stars at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

Wednesday will see Orlando Pirates battle it out for league points against Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Orlando Stadium. Platinum Stars will entertain Supersport United at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg and Bloemfontein Celtic will host Maritzburg United at the Dr Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein.
