Maungani FC win Gwamasenga Laundry Games

 

Maungani FC were crowned the champions of the Gwamasenga Dry Cleaners and Laundry U/15 Soccer Tournament at the Tshifulanani Stadium on Sunday. They beat Tshakhuma Shooting Stars 3-1 in the final. The winner was determined through penalty shoot-out after a goalless full-time draw.

Maungani received R2 000, a  floating trophy, gold medals and two soccer balls during the ceremony at the stadium after the final. Tshakhuma Shooting Stars took home a cash prize of R1 000, silver medals and two soccer balls. The third-placed Shayandima Power Stars were presented with R500 while Itsani Manchester United became R300 richer.

A striker of Shooting Stars, Tshilate Mulaudzi, received the player of the tournament award. Other players who received individual awards are Kenny Radzilani of Shooting Stars (top goal scorer) and Fhulufhelo Maanda of Shooting Stars (best goalkeeper).

Maungani’s way to the final went via Itsani Manchester United, whom they narrowly beat 1-0 in the semifinal. They beat Tshakhuma Na Ndilani 4-3 in their quarterfinal match.

During the ceremony, the managing director of Gwamasenga Dry Cleaners and Laundry, Mr Thilivhali Mulaudzi, said that he was impressed with the manner in which the tournament had been run. He further stated that he would continue to sponsor the tournament next year, saying the sponsorship would also increase.

According to Mulaudzi, teams that will reach the semifinal stage of the competition next year will receive soccer kits and cash and other great prizes.
