International honours for local doctor and top soccer administrator, Ralethe

A medical doctor based in Mukondeni, Dr Malumbete Ralethe, continues to make a name for himself in global sports circles.

A former player of Mukondeni Innocent Defenders, Ralethe is the current president of the Federation of African University Sports (Fasu). Earlier this week he was elected as a member of the executive commitee of the International University Sports Federation (Fisu). The elections took place during the 34th general assembly of Fisu in Lausanne, Switzerland, and was attended by delegations of 128 countries.

"It was a bit tense during the elections, but I would like to thank my African brothers and sisters for showing confidence in my leadership ability," said Ralethe. "We need to revive university sports. On other continents, they use university sports to prepare for the olympic games and we should do the same," he added.

He said that sports occupied a special place in the minds and hearts of all cultures, not only as a form of recreation, but also as a core force for uniting nations. He added that for Fisu to remain a force in international sport, "it is imperative that student sport be developed and promoted among all nations at all levels."
