Magezi and Bellevue in a two-horse race

With only five matches remaining before the end of the ABC Motsepe League activities for the current season, Magezi FC and Bellevue Winners Park are in a two-horse race for the league title.

The defending champions, Magezi FC, are shining on top of the log with 65 points accumulated from 25 matches. Magezi need only nine points in their remaining five matches to secure a place in the promotional playoffs.

The other league title contenders, Bellevue Winners Park, are only seven points behind with the same number of matches played. Magezi broadened the gap last Saturday when they beat Bellevue Winners Park 2-1 at the TT Cholo Stadium in Polokwane. The champions will book a place in the promotional play-offs, where they will battle it out with the winners from the other eight provinces.

The top two teams in the promotional playoffs will be promoted to the National First Division. Magezi failed to make the grade in the promotional play-offs last year. Dolphins FC are lying in the third spot with a very slim chance of winning the league title.

Dynamos moved several steps vertically, following their impressive results in the last four matches. They are now lying in the fourth position.

Great North FC, who were one of the hot contenders for the league title at the beginning of the season, are now lying in the fifth spot. Joe Express, who were leading the pack at the beginning of the season, are in the bottom half on the log. Five teams, viz. Bilika All Stars, Mosesetjane All Stars, Polokwane United, A1 Terrors and Modimolle Aces, are fighting for survival.

Blue Rocks need a miracle to escape relegation. They are languishing at the bottom of the log. Blue Rocks are still to win a league match this season. Two teams will be relegated to the lower division at the end of the season.
