Absolom Mfumadi ends 5th in international meeting

Local bodybuilder Absolom Mfumadi (35) was placed fifth in the recent International Body Building Fitness Federation (IBBF) meeting in Taranto, Italy.

He said participating in the competition and receiving some honours was a difficult but exciting experience. He explained that the IBFF line-up consisted of excellent bodybuilders from 14 countries across the world. “Being ranked fifth in my category is an achievement to celebrate, because the international standard is very high and competitive,” he said.

He added that for him to be among the best athletes representing their respective countries was a milestone in itself. “However, I had wished to place in the top three,” he said. “Now this takes me to the drawing board to review and come up with ways to improve my condition for 2015. I need to revisit my weak points such as my legs, especially the hamstring that needs to show more muscle detail.”

His plan is to maintain his posture and not bulk up that he will be at a better competing standard in 2015. “I am now placing my hope on prospective sponsors to assist me to go forward, because the diet and supplements are very costly,” he said. “For me to come out on top will require financial support.”

Mfumadi ascribes his success and achievements to hard work. He was born in Muduluni, the same village which produced the internationally acclaimed athlete Mbulaeni Mulaudzi.

Mfumadi revealed that the Muduluni Project Committee was in the process of organising a sports day on 26 December, which would have featured Mbulaeni as a role model that youngsters could look up to. “I am part of this team as an athlete too,” he said. “Our vision has been distorted as the pillar of the event has passed on before we could honour his contribution in putting Muduluni on the map. I would also like to tell his family that God has taken back what He had given. He served a purpose in his life and it's up to us to carry his legacy forward. May the Lord grant the Mulaudzi family strength during this trying,  sad time. May his soul rest in peace.”
