UPDATE: Merit found!

 

The Makhado Police have asked the public to be on the lookout for a missing 10-year-old girl.

According to local police spokesperson, Const Irene Radzilane, Merit Nyakbuba was kidnapped from her family home in 66 Kruger Street, in Louis Trichardt, earlier this morning (24 December).

“It is alleged that an unknown male came to the residence under the pretence that he needs accommodation. After his departure the mother notice that her child was missing,” said Radzilane.

The man allegedly told the girl that he will go buy her sweets. He was wearing trousers and a black shirt with grey stripes.

Anyone with information on the girl’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Makhado Police station at Tel 015 519 4300 or Const Radzilane at 082 565 8233.

 

UPDATE:

 

The Makhado Police have confirmed that the 10-year-old Merit Nyakbuba have been found and returned to her family.

According to the police she was found yesterday, 25 December, near the Mopani area (Musina) in the company of 40-year-old Zimbabwean man. The police have managed to arrest the man.

“The girl managed to slip away for her alleged abductor around 14:00, and alerted members of the community,” said the provincial police spokesperson Brig. Motlafela Mojapelo.

“The motive for the incident is not know at this stage, but all possibilities are being investigated,” Mojapelo added.

According to him Merit was taken to hospital, and then released in her family’s care. The investigation is on-going and more details will be released as they become available.
