Former mayoral committee member Richard Thandavhathu died on Sunday.

Former councillor passes away

 

A former councillor of the Makhado Municipality, Richard Thandavhathu, died on Sunday at his home at Tshedza. Thandavhathu was a former member of the mayoral committee and, while in Council, served as portfolio head for sports, arts and culture.

According to members of the Tshedza community, Thandavhathu was a father, a mentor, an icon of hope, a role model and a true leader. He was a visionary, a manager, an organizer and a trustworthy human being whose desire to serve his community motivated him to work hard. As an individual who had the love of his community at heart, Thandavhathu brought countless developmental initiatives around the Makhado Municipality, they said. 

The mayor of Makhado Municipality, Cllr Shonisani Sinyosi, described the death of Thandavhathu as a terrible blow to the community of Makhado. “His death has taken a real comrade, confidante and inspirational leader from both young and old people in our community. We are seriously saddened by his death because he still had so much to offer to this community,” she said.

Mayor Sinyosi said that the municipality would always remember Thandavhathu for his contribution to the development of the community. “On behalf of the municipality, I would like to extend our condolences to the bereaved family and assure them of our unending support during this trying moment.”

The family spokesperson, Mr Lufuno Thandavhathu, said that they were consoled by the massive support from family, friends and community members.

Thandavhathu will be buried on Saturday at Tshedza. The service will start at 06:00 at the Vhulaudzi Hall.
