Medical equipment donated to Messina Hospital

De Beers Venetia Mine, together with its contracting partner VM Diamond Transport, donated two electrocardiogram (ecg) machines (devices that record or display a person's heartbeat) as well as three emergency trolleys to the value of more than R91 000 to the Messina Hospital.

The new equipment means initial observations and investigations can commence as soon as the patient arrives at the hospital, even before they are allocated a medical unit bed, allowing the doctor to already gain access to the patient's information before first consultation.

It will also assist with quicker decision making by senior members of staff at the hospital, who will have investigations and results on hand, and can direct the right patient to the right ward for their continued treatment.

In emphasis on the public-private partnership, the corporate affairs manager of De Beers Venetia Mine, Josephine Pieters, explained that primary health care was very important to De Beers and VM Diamond Transport.

“To have greater impact in the community, one cannot work in isolation, hence we believe that, together with our contracting partners, we can make a real difference amidst these difficult times.”
