Clean water for Mamathiliedzha pupils

Pupils from Mamathieledzha Primary School in Ha-Sidou village outside Thohoyandou used to come to school carrying buckets full of water from their homes almost every day, because of the water shortage at the school.

The principal of the school, Mr Mmbangiseni Nengwenani, said that life was hard at the school due to the shortage of water. “We used to inform our learners to bring their own water, but luckily the situation has changed for the better. A non-governmental organization, Mvula Trust, in conjunction with the provincial education department, joined hands to rescue the learners."

On Monday, the Mvula Trust handed over a borehole, big tank and three taps, which will supply clean water. According to Nengwenani, the trust has rescued the school with the much-needed clean water from the taps. “We will now also plant vegetables in the school's garden and use the produce in the children's nutrition programme.”

Mr Alex Modiba, who represented Mvula Trust during the handing over, said they were approached by the provincial education department for assistance in supplying water to the school and decided to help. One of the learners, Hulisani Nembilwi, said the Mvula Trust had saved them from the burden of carrying buckets full of water to school almost every day.
