Young Tshedza reunited with her mother

A seven-year old girl, Tshedza Mathikhithela, who was allegedly abducted on 1 August by her mother’s former boyfriend, Wisdom Mtakazo from Zimbabwe, was reunited with her mother.

The pupil from the Shavhani Primary School in Shanzha village was found unharmed at the house of the suspect’s sister in Mutare, Zimbabwe, last Wednesday (24 August).

A spokesperson for the Siloam police station, W/O Tharaga, said that Tshedza had been taken to Zimbabwe the very same day she was taken from school. The police investigations led them on a path across the border and into Zimbabwe where the suspect had fled with the young girl.

“It was not an easy task, because the suspect managed to escape before the police could apprehend him, but our officers made a breakthrough and reunited Tshedza with her mother,” said Tharaga.

Chief Thinandavha Shavhani applauded the police for the efficient work they did, and working closely with the community. “Parents and the youth should refrain from violent acts and illegal strikes,” said Chief Shavhani and he urged parents to safeguard their children and to be well aware of their children’s whereabouts at all times.

Tshedza’s mother, Rofhiwa Tshankambule, indicated that she was grateful for the manner in which the police had handled the case and for going as far as Zimbabwe to get her daughter back. She also thanked her family and community members for all the support she received.
