Sisters donate library to Shayandima Secondary

Last Friday, two sisters, Shumani and Fhatuwani Nembudani, assisted Shayandima Primary School to turn an unused classroom into a library.

The two, both chartered accountants, have recently started their own company, Dream in Colour Foundation (DCF), which is based in Gauteng.

During a ceremony, they presented the library with a large number of books to the school. “We want to be social agents for change in the educational sphere by encouraging learners to take education seriously. We are also encouraged by former president Nelson Mandela, who always said that education is the most powerful weapon, which we can use to change the world,” said Shumani.

According to her, reading books also helps to increase the vocabulary of pupils and she expressed the hope that the library will help to equip pupils to become leaders. “We also want to address poor academic grades by providing learners with additional study materials and guides through the use of e-learning. We want to introduce a reader’s corner aimed at assisting the pupils to read more, whereby they will increase their vocabulary as well as improve their articulation of words,” she added.

The deputy principal of the school, Mr Michael Maligana, said he was thankful for the library that was developed in his school and hoped it would go a long way in empowering learners with the skills of reading more books. “We urge our learners to make use of this library and read more books that are available.”
