Chief Lavhelesani Rabali takes over the reigns

Community members from Rabali and surrounding villages attended the installation of Chief Lavhelesani "Muonyolosi" Rabali on Saturday in numbers. The event was held at Rabali village.

He succeeds his father, Joseph, who passed away in 2008.

The new chief was installed in the presence of other traditional leaders, councillors, community members, businesspeople and other stakeholders and Khotsimunene Vho-Japan Mphephu conducted the installation.

He said he supported the vision of installing chiefs who could assist in the day-to-day running of the village. “We want development in our area, and we have taken the lead by starting community-driven projects. We hope that you will all follow suit, so that your subjects will reap the fruits of this democracy,” he said.

He urged the new chief to look after the interests of the poor and also urged the community to give the utmost support and respect to their leaders. Community members must support their leaders, he said, and advised the new chief to work for the people and to support the government.

He also told the chief to refrain from bad habits, stressing that political parties should respect the chiefs, since they are the leaders of their communities. The new chief said it was a great day for his people and that he was aware of the challenges ahead of him. He said his immediate attention would be to engage the relevant authorities for the development of the village. “We are quite aware of the challenges like water, electricity and roads in our area," he said.
