Woman in court on murder charge

A 29-year-old woman appeared in the Waterval Magistrate's Court last week in connection with a murder that took place about three weeks ago.

A resident of Mpheni village, Ms Mikateko Tshirangwana, appeared in court and her case was postponed for further investigation and for the accused to seek the help of a legal representative.

The incident that left the entire Mpheni shocked happened on 29 June, shortly before midnight.

Tshirangwana allegedly stabbed her boyfriend to death during an argument. It was alleged that the two partners were involved in a domestic argument. The deceased was later identified as a Zimbabwean national, known in the local community as Lovejoy.

The spokesperson for the Waterval police, Const Cynthia Ndou, said that the police had opened a case of murder, following the incident. “The deceased's surname has not been identified yet. Even the suspect does not know his surname even though they were staying together,” Ndou said.

Cllr Sipho Masuka, the councillor for  Ward 15 in the Makhado Municipality, said that it was very wrong to take a fellow human being's life. “When people agree to co-habit with someone unknown in that community, they should introduce that person to the headman or ward committee,” Masuka said. “We cannot say people must not fall in love with people they do not know. We only need to follow certain procedures since we are not living alone in the communities.”
