Still no RDP house for gogo Tshioma

In spite of the fact that Dorah Tshioma has been applying for an RDP house for the past five years, she is still living in a dilapidated shack that floods whenever it rains.

The 66-year-old gogo, who hails from Tshikuwi, said that her hopes were raised in 2015 when the Makhado Municipality supplied the building materials for her house. “The Ward 36 councillor, Mr Mbulaheni Magada, came to the chief’s kraal and announced that I will be the first one to get an RDP house,” said Tshioma.

When Limpopo Mirror visited, her shack was damaged and it could collapse any time. “I am living in this shack with my grandchildren because I have nowhere to go,” she said.

“The contractors came last year and built RDP houses in Tshikuwi, but much to my surprise my building materials were taken away by the contractors. The contractors only laid the foundation and went away,” she added.

“I asked the contractor why my building materials were being taken away. The driver told me that the materials were going to be used somewhere else to build other RDP houses. All the RDP houses in this area are finished and the contractor is now gone,” she added. She was apparently told the contractor would arrive again in April, but this did not happen.

Ward 36 councillor Mr Mbulaheni Magada was not available for comment. The Makhado Municipality spokesperson Mr Louis Bobodi said that he was in Vuwani and was not aware of the situation that Mrs Tshioma is facing.
