Humbulani vies for Mrs South Africa title

The 34-year-old Humbulani Maiwashe has been selected in the top 100 list of the Mrs South Africa 2016 pageant.

This mother of three children and resident of Mashamba village’s journey as a model started during her high school days, when she came second in the Miss Lovely Legs competition.

“I entered Mrs South Africa because it’s not just a pageant, but it empowers women by opening doors for them to market their businesses and start their own if they haven’t one already,” she said.

She owns a small baking enterprise, and is a third-year student with Unisa, where she is doing a BA in Consumer Science.

“The one thing I value most is family; that’s what grounds me,” she said. “My faith plays a big role, as well as loyalty. Those are the two biggest things I hold dear to my heart. I also love helping people.”

Humbulani has already started to do some charitable work within her community, where she has sought recreational sponsorship for the elderly at the Takalani Old Age Group in Mashamba village. “The grannies are also in need of a temporary structure or shelter and a mobile toilet in times when they gather for weekly meetings,” she said.

She indicated that she loved the Mrs South Africa pageant because it was for married women, of any race, shape, and height. “It’s not about looks, but what you can contribute towards your community,” she said.

She is currently looking for any persons or businesses who might be interested in sponsoring her and her projects as part of being a semi-finalist in the pageant.

People can also vote for Humbulani on Facebook. All that they need to do is go to the Mrs SA Facebook page, go to pictures, and they have to like her picture on the #top100 hash-tag.

The finalists will be chosen on 29 April at Emperor's Palace.
