The Soutpansberg North Circuit recently held its excellence awards ceremony at Hoërskool Eric Louw in Musina.
Schools, teachers and pupils who had performed exceptionally well in the 2015 academic year were acknowledged and awarded trophies and certificates. Awards were presented in different categories, which included circuit best learner, teachers who produced a 100% pass rate in their subjects, most improved school, best performed school and schools that produced quality results. A total of 23 top pupils from different primary schools within the circuit also received certificates during the event.
Highlighting the purpose of excellence awards, Soutpansberg North circuit manager Dr Ntavhanyeni Phaswana maintained that acknowledging and motivating schools’ leadership, teachers and pupils went a long way in achieving good results. “This ceremony serves as a motivation to our teachers and pupils. It is a way of recognising their good work during the past academic year.”
According to Phaswana, the circuit did not manage to attain their target of at least 80% pass rate. "We hope to do better this year. Together, we as circuit administrators, school governing bodies and parents should double our efforts to get the teachers fully committed to support learners.”
Mopane Intermediate School received an award as the most improved school by achieving 89, 1% in 2015 from 88,7% in the 2014 academic year. Together with Hoërskool Eric Louw, Mopane Intermediate School produced better results than any other school in the circuit. Masereni Secondary School and Hoërskool Eric Louw scooped awards as best-performing schools.
Gibbon Ramaremisa from Musina High School, who passed Grade 12 with flying colours, took the award for the best learner overall in the circuit. Ramaremisa, who is pursuing his studies at the University of Limpopo, couldn’t contain his joy. “I am honoured to be recognised and given this award. My sincere thank you goes out to my parents, teachers and fellow learners for helping me pass my subjects well. Otherwise I wouldn't have achieved what I have attained. This has been a collective effort. I am looking forward to doing well in my academic life at university.”
Cllr Fistos Mafela from Musina Municipality commended all the award recipients and encouraged them to double their efforts to achieve even more in this year’s academic year.
