Musina “to become a city in the near future”

In preparation of becoming a city, the Musina Municipality, together with Dracura Investments, held a three-day investors conference at Tshipise Forever Resort last week.

Guests included investors from various sectors, such as aquaculture, agro-processing, telecoms, insurance, banking, water purification, mining, hospitality, tourism, property development, logistics and informal trading.

When addressing guests during the official opening, Mayor Mihloti Ramoyada said the goal of the municipality was to work out a sustainable plan to grow the local economy. “As we are preparing our border town to become a city in the near future, we realize that we must establish working relationships with interested companies and potential investors who might want to do business in Musina. As local economic drivers, it is our responsibility to foster a sense of social responsibility within our community.

Potential investors and businesses should always remember that there is a lot of economic potential in Musina.” Ms Esther Netshivhongweni, the chairperson of Dracura Investment, a company appointed by Musina Municipality to lure investors, said the conference came at the right time after the government had declared Musina as one of the provincial growth points. She said that, among others, the conference aimed to stimulate economic development as per the national development plan, stimulate the economy of Limpopo, identify stakeholders that can drive the economy of Musina and sensitize the people of Musina that there is economic potential in Musina.

Among others, speakers at the conference included Thovhele Kennedy Tshivhase, Dr Elmar de Wet from the University of Pretoria, Nathi Tshiwanammbi from Musina Municipality, Follie van Zyl from Musina Associated Carriers and Pitsi Moemi from the Department of Economic Development.
