Tshikundamalela communities call for proper service

The communities in and around Ha-Tshikundamalema outside Mutale told Executive Mayor Tshitereke Matibe and his delegation that they needed services delivery and nothing else.

Representing the Ha-Tshikundamalema communities, the chairperson of the council, Mr Richard Mammbeda said the shortage of clean water, the re-gravelling of roads and the building of new RDP houses for the poor people were among the top priorities that communities wanted Vhembe District Municipality to take care of. “The gravel road between Ha-Tshikundamalema and Tshipise is in a bad state and it needs urgent intervention. We are also worried that the Ha-Tshikundamalema community relies on water from boreholes and, as a result of the drought prevalent in many parts of the province, we will be left without clean water,” said Mammbeda.

He added that Mukondeni village and Ha-Tshikundamalema were divided because of the lack of a bridge to connect the two communities and pupils suffered as they had to cross the Mulondodi River when going to school.

Vhembe councillor Ms Dorcus Mmboyi told the gathering at the Ha-Tshikundamalema Tribal Council on Friday that the communities were given opportunities to express their views regarding service delivery matters affecting them.

“We are here as part of the consultative stakeholders forum where the executive mayor and his delegation met with the civic leaders and traditional authorities to check important issues. We are also interested in getting information on the progress in terms of services delivery and unblocking some of the backlog challenges and what must be done as a way forward,” Mmboyi said.

A senior traditional leader, Thovhele Mmbengeni Tshikundamalema, was excited that villages under his jurisdiction had received priority from the Vhembe District Municipality and expressed the hope that his community will be remembered in the supplying of much-needed services.
