“Use your skills and contribute positively to the country”

Former Limpopo MEC and former Speaker of the Limpopo Legislature Dr Tshenuwani Farisani urged students who received qualifications at Mvelaphanda Development and Projects Training Centre to contribute positively to their communities and the country as a whole.

Farisani was the guest speaker during the centre’s 26th annual diploma and certificate ceremony, held at the Thohoyandou Indoor Centre at the weekend. Parents and relatives ululated with joy as the more than 300 students ascended the podium to receive their qualifications in different fields.

“There is a big skills shortage in South Africa and you have done right by working hard to obtain your qualifications that will stand you in good stead when competing for places in the job market. You don’t have to sit down and wait for hand-outs from the government, but the skills you acquired today are enough for you to start something. They are a good foundation for you to start your own business and create employment for yourselves."

Farisani further urged the graduates not to stop studying but to enrol for further courses.

The centre director and founder, Esther Mushaathama, said that they had trained many people in different skills over the years. “Many of those we have trained do come back and give feedback on how they are performing in the work place. We are humbled to hear that most are now working and contributing to the economy of the country."

Best overall sudent Livhuwani Nenzhelele (21), who received a diploma in Human Resources, said that the centre had paved the way for her. “I am not stopping here,” she said.
