Musina mayor proud of service delivery

Mayor Mihloti Ramoyada emphasised the huge progress in terms of service delivery in the Musina Munisipal area when she delivered her State of the Municipality Address during a ceremony at the Musina show grounds last week.

When she announced the total operational and capital budget of R255 335 914, Ramoyada also used the occasion to report on the progress, challenges and future plans of the municipality.

She announced that they had recently bought a grader at a cost of R3,4 million, a historic achievement for the municipality when taking into consideration that they had operated for many years without an own grader. They have also acquired a bakkie for the technical department and a sedan for the traffic department. “As part of accelerating service delivery in the licencing unit, we have also procured a play detector to make sure that our people get the much-needed services at their doorstep.”

She also mentioned that they had filled 44 vacant positions during the current financial year. According to her, the current municipal projects are nearing completion and she assured guests that the municipality was performing doing well in terms of financial management.
Ramoyada noted, however, her concern about people who do not pay for municipal services. “We are still unable to provide some of the services because of the high amount owed by consumer debtors, which is more than R30 million. We are embarking on campaigns to educate our people that it is important to pay for services, so that we can in return use the money for the benefit of our communities.”

Some of the projects to be implemented during the financial year, which started on 1 July, include the development and gazzetting of by-laws, the purchase of compactor truck, the surveying of sites in Nanacefield Extension 9, township establishment in Nancefield, the purchasing of a geographic information system, a tow truck, traffic vehicles and an alcohol test detector, the upgrading of the town feeder line, replacement of the 11KV line with underground cables for Extension 6 and the construction of a traffic client centre.

The MEC for Public Works, Jerry Ndou, congratulated Ramoyada, her councilors and municipal administrators on prioritizing the needs of the community.

“The provincial government will continue to work with municipalities to improve the lives of ordinary community members. Today’s occasion is a true reflection that we are all serious about service delivery issues,” he said.
