R31 million road project to start in Chavani village

Expectations are high among the unemployed around Chavani village, where a R31million road project was officially launched by the mayor of the Makhado Municipality, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi, last Thursday.

Mutavhatsindi said the initiative was part of the government’s way of providing jobs. "We will do our best to make sure that all South Africans enjoy the fruit of our hard-earned freedom." He explained that the scope of the work included the upgrading of the gravel roads to tarred roads. The first phase of the project is a stretch of three kilometres of road, which will include storm-water drainage pipes. “The duration of the project is eight months,” he said.

According to him, the construction will start soon and is expected to be completed by April 2016. About 40 jobs will be created.

He said that the project would bring relief to the area as it would provide jobs. “This is a true reflection of what service delivery is all about. We will continue to make sure that our people are being taken care of because they deserve it."

The project contractor is Kgoroganang Plant Hire, which was represented at the launch by Mr Terry Seema. He promised to deliver quality work. Chief Thomas Mkhari was on cloud nine during the occasion. "We have no doubt that this project will play a meaningful role in uplifting the standard of life of our people,” he said.
