Chief Ratshalingwa Ramugondo.

Respected Chief Ramugondo is no more

 

The community in and around the Ha-Tshivhase area is in deep mourning, following the passing of Chief Ratshalingwa Ramugondo,  a trusted chief of Thovhele Kennedy Tshivhase of the Tshivhase Dynasty.

Ramugondo (75), of Ngudza village outside Thohoyandou, passed away on Friday at the MediClinic in Polokwane after a short illness.

Family spokesperson Mr Muraga Ramugondo said his death was a huge loss to his village and the Tshivhase community. Ramugondo became chief of Ngudza village in 1986, after he succeeded his father, Chief Mmbulaheni Ramugondo.

“Chief Ramugondo worked as assistant secretary for the Tshivhase Territorial Council in 1961 and took part in the building of many schools around the Tshivhase area. Among them are the Tshivhase and Phiriphiri Secondary Schools. He also worked for the Department of Education in Sibasa for almost 20 years and retired in 2005,” said Ramugondo.

According to him, Chief Ramugondo was the chairperson of the Tshivhase tribal council under the leadership of Thovhele Kennedy Tshivhase for almost 30 years and until his death. He played a pivotal role during the inauguration of chiefs and headmen around the Tshivhase tribal council.

Chief Ramugondo is survived by two wives and eight children. He will be buried today (Friday), in Ngudza village. The procession will start in Ngudza Primary School at about 11:00.
