The general manager at SuperSpar Louis Trichardt, Mr Chris de Beer, hands the key to Ms Sandra Maedza.

Young mother wins “blessing from God”

A 32-year-old resident of Midoroni village in the Kutama area, Ms Sandra Maedza, said that she considered having won a car as a blessing from God. Shortly before saying this, she was handed the keys to a brand new Hyundai i10.

A regular customer at SuperSpar Louis Trichardt, Maedza entered the supermarket’s car competition around April. She received a call notifying her about her luck, but she was not taken by surprise either, because she had known all long that the car belonged to her.

“I had a dream of being a car owner,” she said. “When the Spar official called to tell me that I had won a car, I explained to them that it was my dream car.”

A mother of one, Maedza said that many people did not believe that competitions like the ones which SuperSpar Louis Trichardt usually held for customers were real. “They think they are just gimmicks to lure more customers,” she said, even though it was her first time entering the supermarket’s competition. “I buy my lunch and monthly groceries at Spar.”

She added that she would also use the car to load her groceries instead of using plastic bags and walking a long distance to the taxi rank.

The general manager at SuperSpar Louis Trichardt, Mr Chris de Beer, applauded Maedza for being selected among hundreds of thousands of entries. He said that the competition ran from 21 April to 8 June. “As always, our customer response and participation exceeded expectations,” he said. “We received thousands of entries every week.”

He added that the car competition always created a lot excitement and was one of the supermarket's ways of giving back to customers. “To our winner I want to say thank you for being such a loyal customer,” he said. “All the staff at SuperSpar Louis Trichardt wish you many happy kilometres with your Hyundai i10 Glide.”
