Drinking water at last for Vu community

The community of Vu outside Vuwani, an area that has been denied services for a long time, was a place of joy and happiness the past weekend when residents received water for the first time.

The Vhembe region of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) handed over a borehole to the thirsty community. The frustrated leadership at Vu approached the EFF for assistance, claiming that the government could not give them service.

The borehole was handed over to chief Nelson Ramathithi, better known as Chief Nevu the second, by EFF chairperson Ms Tinyiko Manganyi. The occasion, which took place at a site not far from the royal palace, was witnessed by many community members, traditional leaders and members of the EFF.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Ms Manganyi said the EFF responded to a call for assistance by the community of Vu. “We heard about the plight of these people who are denied services by the government and felt that we could make an intervention by supplying water to this community. This is just a start. We are going all out, and we will use the little resources we have to take our communities out of poverty,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of the community, chief Nelson Ramathithi Nevu said the ANC government had failed them. “We have been trying hard to get the attention of government, but they chose to ignore us. The EFF are the only people who can govern this country and we are fully behind them,” he said.

The regional leadership of the EFF and local traditional leaders arrive at the venue where the borehole was handed over.
