Well-known retired academic, Mmbengwa Watson Mbulaheni of Khubvi village said that he will now get enough time to realize his potential as a full-time writer.

The multiple award winning author, who was the principal of Thenzheni Primary School since 1987 until the end of April, made this comment after publishing his 17th book, Zwa Tshitangani. It is a collection of Tshivenda short stories and the title can loosely be translated as family feud.

Mbulaheni says that his latest book relates to the everyday lives of local people. “The collection is about what local people experience in their daily lives. I made sure that the stories are very short, to keep the interest of the readers. If one is a frequent reader, only five minutes are enough to finish reading one story. You can quickly ease your mind with this collection while waiting for public transport, cooking or relaxing.”

Mbulaheni added that the book comprises 14 short stories, and he predicts that it will keep the readers glued to the pages. “The real life stories include A mbo rothisa mitodzi, O tangana nazwo, Munyanya ngavhe u vhe mulovha, Zwi dina zwi tshi da henefha, Na zwino a si Lutendo lini, Vho vhulahisa Feedas, Tshiphiri tsho bvela khagala, Ndi do pfuluwa nga nthani ha Vho-Sendedza, Vhari hu pfi ndi nne, Vho-Gambukambu vho dishuma tshitavhatsindi, Ndi Seani, Ya khotsi a Maria, Vhafunzi vho vhulaisa muthu and Vha ntahadzelani.

Despite his success in the writing industry, Mbulaheni indicated that there are people who played a developmental role in his writing career. “I would not have done justice if I don’t pass my gratitude to all the people who encouraged me to keep on writing. It will be impossible to mention all their names because they are many.”

What does the future hold for this versatile author, businessman, farmer and community builder? “My plan is to assist young writers to develop their writing skills and ultimately publish their works. Those who want my books, including this latest one can get them at MW Mbulaheni Booksellers at Makonde village, north of Thohoyandou, or call me on 082 533 8881.
