Ten new emergency response vehicles for Vhembe

Officials from the emergency services in Vhembe will in future be able to react faster to uncontrolled veld and infrastructural fires or road accidents.

This is thanks to the 10 new fire services response vehicles bought by the Vhembe District Municipality. The acting general manager of community services of the Vhembe District Municipality, Ms Ntshavhiseni Demana, said they had spent R5 million on purchasing the Land Cruisers.

“Our district is very concerned about service delivery and we also want to ensure we respond to emergencies as quickly as possible. Some of our existing response vehicles are old and cannot reach their destination in time,” said Demana. According to her, communities should be aware that accidents can happen any time, without notice. “We are still planning to procure more vehicles in order to beef up two newly opened fires stations, namely Vuwani in Makhado and Xigalo in Malamulele." She added that they will allocate two vehicles each to the Ramushwana Fire Station in Thohoyandou, Vuwani, Xigalo and Makhado, while Mutale and the Obed Mashaba station in Musina will get one vehicle each.

During the handing over of vehicles to various fire stations at Thohoyandou on Monday, the executive mayor, Cllr Tshitereke Matibe, expressed the hope that the vehicles will make the work easier for the rescue officers and communities will get services in time.
