Engen donates scholar patrol equipment to Bergvlam

Scholar patrolling at Bergvlam School at Sibasa Limpopo received a major boost when a well-known local petrol station donated reflector vests and stop signs to them.

The equipment was handed over to the school principal, Mr Gilbert Nyathela, by representatives of Sibasa Engen Garage, Messrs Rudolf Haasbroek and Tshifhiwa Ratshibvumo, on Monday morning.

When handing over the equipment, Haasbroek told the more than 1 000 pupils and teachers that one of the staff members of the school, who is also one of their clients, approached them and told them about their plight. "We did not think twice. We knew that this was for a good cause, as scholar road safety is of utmost the importance."

He added that the future of the country relied on the young pupils "and if we want to see this country moving forward in terms of development, we should start taking care of them now. Among these children there are doctors, engineers and politicians who will advance this country."

He promised that the donation was the beginning of a long-lasting relationship. "We are still going to sit down with the management of the school and identify areas of need, and if our coffers allow, we will make the necessary interventions,” he said.

School principal Gilbert Nyathela was excited about the donation. He said that the school had a huge enrolment and it became very difficult to control access to the school in the mornings and afternoons. "With this kind of brand new equipment, road safety and the scholar patrol will be boosted greatly,” he said. “We are indeed grateful for the support that Engen Sibasa is giving us, and we urge other businesses in the vicinity to copy what they have done,” he said.
