Levy Ndou leads Univen’s convocation

The newly appointed president of the convocation of Univen, Mr Levy Ndou, says he is aiming to “raise Univen’s flag higher and higher.”

Ndou, (46)  a well-known political analyst and a lecturer at the Tswane University of Technology (TUT), was elected president of the Univen convocation during the annual general meeting of the convocation at the senate chambers. He succeeds Mr Shumani Ravhuanzwo, who was elected his deputy.

Ndou was born and bred at Lwamondo and matriculated at Shondoni Secondary. He received an honours degree in political science from Univen.

“The Univen convocation has to understand the university strategic plan and fit her plans into that plan. The convocation has to ensure that all the members are always informed about the developments at the university,” says Ndou.

He says all alumni must be involved in the activities of the convocation. "There are chapters in Polokwane, Gauteng and Mpumalanga. These chapters need to be revived and new chapters need to be launched. We also have to expand and have chapters in other provinces. Univen has observed a number of students from neighbouring countries. We have to expand and have chapters in Zimbabwe and Swaziland," he adds.

Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela of the Northern Gauteng High Court addressed the event and expressed the hope that the newly elected members will serve and contribute to make Univen realize its dream, mission and vision. “I challenge all of us to be always on our best of behaviour wherever we act or speak on behalf of the University of Venda. We should be able to sign the pledge to help this institution to sustain its dreams,” Maumela said.

The newly elected members of the Univen Convocation are Mr Levy Ndou (president), Mr Shumani Ravhuanzwo, (deputy president) and the additional members are Mr Khathu Razwiedani, Thovhele Nthumeni Masia and Ms Salome Magokga.
