Like wine that matures with time, the music of Phil Tendani Nephawe, popularly known as Mutendas, continues to take centre stage in the world of the local entertainment industry.

Mutendas, who was groomed by veteran Tsonga musician Dr Thomas Chauke and Gallo Recording Studio's prolific music producer, Thom Mkhize, has just released his latest album, entitled Musidzana Mutshena (a girl with a light complexion).

The album has 10 thrilling songs that will automatically take the local music industry by storm. The tracks are Zwi do divhea, Musidzana Mutshena, Nne ndi nga dzhena, Tsakani, Ndo kondelela, Nne ndi murunwa, Muloi ha livhuwi, Vha so ngo mu Themba, A nga vha vhulaha and Ndo kalaha.

To add spice to the album, Mutendas has featured gospel diva Rapson Rambuwani on the song Na nne ndi nga dzhena. Versatile Venda traditional music legend Christopher Mathogo is featured on the track Nne ndi murunwa.

All songs on the album were composed by Mutendas himself, who also played the lead guitar. It is clear from the sweet melodies and well-arranged instruments that the album was recorded, engineered and arranged by award-winning sound engineer Emmanuel Mamphogoro at Winman Studios. Madoda Ntshingila played the bass guitar and Ronald Mashimbyi features on keyboards.

Mutendas, who grew up in Tshaulu and Muraga village, encourages community members to move away from piracy. “Buying original music is a clear indication that people are supporting us. Piracy is crippling the music industry, and I condemn it in the strongest possible terms.”

He said he had already started promoting the album by conducting interviews on radio stations and staging live performances in different towns around the country. For orders, bookings and public performances, Mutendas can be contacted on 076 642 3867.
