Like dynamite that comes in a small package, this reggae music legend does not have a distinctive posture, but his powerful music will hit you until you drop. This is none other than the famous school-teacher-cum-musician, Rudzani Shufflers Ragimana of Makonde village, north of Thohoyandou.

The highly experienced musician, who has shared the stage and collaborated with Dan Tshanda of Splash, Colbert Mukwevho, Roxley Masevhe, Kenny Murabi, Saul Nephawe, Rofhiwa Manyaga and Jahman Chiganja, among others, has just released his fifth album, titled Tshinwe na Tshinwe.

The 10-track album, which is receiving massive airplay on Phalaphala FM and local community radio stations, has everything that reggae music lovers need. The tracks are Reggae Music, Vha na Tshituhu, Nkhathutshele, Tshinwe na Tshinwe, Vhana vha muthu, Lulindo, Nwananga, A zwi dzhenwi, Ndi na inwi and Ndi zwa kale. Recorded at Burning Shark Studios in Thohoyandou, the album was composed, arranged and produced by Shufflers himself.

“The response I’m getting from my fans is overwhelming. The album was launched three weeks ago, but it has sold more than 8 000 copies. I’m greatly humbled by this achievement and it gives me courage to work hard in my music career,” he said.

Shufflers started his musical career as a dancer at the age of 13 in 1980. “I then made myself a guitar, using an old oil tin and rubber bands,” he recalled.

His breakthrough came when his late cousin, Elvis Mukwevho, bought him his first electric guitar in 1983. “I started composing my own songs and became a singer. I then joined a local group, called Thinawanga Band, before I started my own group, called Shufflers, in 1984. All my previous albums, VhutshiloDilugiseleniVha khou vhonwa and Tshelede, were received with exitement by my fans and they are still selling. My DVD, titled Bonyongo is still selling and is also on Youtube.”

As a musician who is moving with the times in terms of technology, Shufflers launched his website (www.shufflers.co.za) last month. He is also available on Facebooktwitter,InstagramYoutube and e-mail ([email protected]).

For bookings, performances and orders, Shufflers can be contacted on 073 425 4096 or 072 855 5953.
