Recording artist and professional jingle writer for both TV and radio Lordwick Netshivhale has just released his debut studio-recorded Afro-traditional jazz album, titled Mudzimu Washu (Our God).

In music circles, this artist is affectionately known as L'wei to hundreds of his fans.

“I believe good music influences and heals one's soul,” he said, and this is exactly what his music does.

This year has been an incredible for L'wei, with his album being nominated in two categories for the Mzanzi Gospel Awards 2015. He has so far been nominated with some of the giant artists that have been in the industry for decades, in the same category as Loyiso Bala and Lundi.

Mudzimu Washu has shown its success within a short space of time from its date of realese. “I was nomited in the Collaboration of the Year as well as the Jazz/Instrumental Album of the Year categories,” he said.

L'wei recently released a single, titled Ri Ma-Africa Rothe, which means that we are all Africans. “The song condems the recent xenophobic attacks that have been happening in South Africa,” he said. The very song was made available for free download on Soundcloud and on his Facebook page.

His vision is to unite people of all nations through music, to inspire creativity and embrace the Tshivenda language through the unique gospel sound he plays.

His professional achievements include an N1 in Music from OCHRIM School of Music, a national Diploma (in music) and B-Tech in jazz and popular music from the Tshwane University of Technology.

His album was recorded at his studio, Tshivhale Line Productions. With the hope of reviving and bringing back the vintage indigenous sound of Tshivenda traditional music, he infused all that in a modern Afro Jazz style.

The album has received a good response from everyone, including people who do not understand the Tshivenda language.

"I am enjoying the music, brother,” Bongi N Colin wote on L'wei's Facebook page. “Honestly I might not understand your language but I love the culture and how you respect it. Thank you for authentic music, write more!”

Another listener and admirer, Mukhethwa Lidzhade, said: “"I can't get enough of MudzimuWashu. It has been on repeat u bva tsha mulovha. This is impressive stuff man.”
