Linda Kwata (25) of Tshikota, known as Linda K in music circles, recently released her debut album, Tshepo ya Modimo, a gospel album.

She started her music career in 1997 as a member of the choir of the Holiness Church Choir. She felt, however, that her talent was not sufficiently recognized. While desperately searching for somebody to assist her to have her music recorded, Kwata met well-known disabled artist Selina Musobi at Madombidzha. She introduced Linda to Ndiene Recording Studio and they assisted her in recording Tshepo ya Modimo.

The album comprises eight songs and a bonus track. The popular songs on the album are Tshepo ya Modimo, Ditheto and Mahodimo.

Kwata has revealed that, although the album has been little more than a month in the market, it has already made a huge impact when it comes to the sales. The album is self-marketed and distributed.

All songs have been composed by Mpho Makhado and Selina Musobi of Ndiene Recordings. When asked how she intended to promote her new release, Kwata said that it was difficult for her to perform live as she did not have musical instruments of their own.

She added that she was concerned to see that there were young people who were consuming liquor and using drugs. She said with God in a person’s life, it was not necessary to use artificial sources like drugs to become happy. She also stated that, even though she had not gone far in terms of education, she had come to realize the importance of education and always encouraged young people to put education first.
